Fairness. Regulation. Ordinance.

The small claims court was established and designed to resolve disputes quickly and inexpensively. While attorneys are allowed in these disputes, parties usually represent themselves (“pro se”) because of the small jurisdictional limit in monetary rewards.

Although the court was established to empower and protect the common person — individuals, families, and small business owners— many do not seek out help because of costly lawyer fees and the complexity of the legal system. Although the procedures and rules are simplified and relaxed for smaller claims, many do not have the legal knowledge to adequately represent themselves. Many people do not pursue cases or defend themselves due to the lack of knowledge and the complexity of the system.

Abitibase was created to connect these people with a network of top law students and lawyers to provide legal advice and help that they rightfully deserve. Everyone should have a fair chance in disputes regardless of their legal education and status — money should not be holding others back from pursuing or defending a claim that they believe they deserve.
